Daniel Jones

Network infrastructure, soundbox programming and interactive design.

Daniel Jones is an artist, designer and engineer based in south London, whose work revolves around the points of intersection between art and science. His current research is focused around the notions of emergence and self-organisation in complex systems, manifesting itself in a range of cross-platform works: AtomSwarm (2006), an improvisational performance interface using swarm dynamics; Map of a Micro-Community (2007), which depicts the growth and fluctuations of an online community; and Subtext (2008), a site-specific installation which translates the underlying signals of network traffic into a set of human-readable hieroglyphics, commissioned by SoundNetwork for Futuresonic08.

His work is firmly rooted in open-source methodologies, both technically and philosophically, with the major elements of each of his software projects released into the public domain under a free license.
